Guide Training Scholarship

The Association of Nature and Forest Therapy Guides and Programs recognizes that there are many ways in our society that challenge some people’s ability to fully participate in the opportunities that call to them. We believe that nature should be a place of healing, discovery and inspiration for all peoples, regardless of their background or the resources available to them. We continually strive to cultivate inclusion and diversity among our guides. In this spirit, the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy Guides and Programs offers a limited number of full and partial tuition scholarships for forest therapy guide trainings to applicants who experience financial barriers to training programs like ours, and who demonstrate a strong potential for bringing forest therapy to diverse communities.

Scholarship Application Windows

Scholarship applications will be accepted four times per year during a one-month window. Once the window closes, applications will not be accepted until the next window opens. If an application received during one window is not accepted, the applicant may apply again when the next window opens.

The four application windows for 2020 are:

  • December 1 - December 30, 2019
  • March 1 - March 30, 2020
  • June 1 - June 30, 2020
  • September 1 - September 30, 2020

Scholarship Amounts

Scholarships will fund 100%, 75% or 50% of a recipients’ tuition for the one-week training intensive and the subsequent six-month practicum. Travel, food, and lodging must be covered by the recipient and can be paid by credit card or check at the time of registration. Should the cost of travel, food and lodging present an insurmountable hurdle, we encourage recipients to reach out to their communities for support or use an online crowd-funding site like gofundme.com.

Funding Sources

In 2020, our scholarship fund totals $49,050 and is supported by Community Members, people both inside and outside of our guide community who advocate for the growth of forest therapy. ANFT matches these contributions and adds to it while our Community membership family grows. We are deeply grateful for the contributions of our community members who make our scholarship fund possible.  Please join to support scholarships and the growth of forest therapy into all communities.
