Our Ireland Training Grounds:
Crann-Og Eco Farm
"Crann Og is nestled between two native Irish woodlands and a stones throw from the mysterious Gort river, which disappears underground and re-appears seven times on it's way to Dunguaire Castle in Kinvarra. We are 9km from the town of Gort and a 45 minutes drive away from Galway city and the town of Ennis. Crann Og is well situated for excursions to the Burren national park, the Cliffs of Moher, Coole Park, Kilmacduagh Monastery and Thoor Ballyle. We are proud recipients of Ecotourism Ireland's Silver Award for our Children's Eco Yoga and Nature Experience programs! Crann Og is an eco-farm, yoga and small event/workshop venue. We also offer eco-tourism suitable to families, couples and individuals interest to reconnect with nature, relax, rejuvenate, and experience sustainable living in a small community setting. Our on-site facilities include solar showers (with aux iliary heating from wood stoves), dry composting toilets, cabin and field kitchens, clean fresh well water and a recycling station. We share our space with many animals, such as horses, sheep, lambs in season, chickens, ducks, dogs, cats, wild birds, fish & deer. We offer pony rides and guided walks into the adjoining ancient woods, both suitable for children and adults alike.
Our facilities are hand crafted from recycled and reclaimed materials, deliberately avoiding the use of potentially toxic building materials. Our grounds are crammed with organic gardens, pond, willow fedges, domes and arches and vegetable gardens and tunnels. There are additional areas for camping, retreating, playing and animals. We stand next to a Special Area of Conservation (SAC), Drummin Wood, and act as self-appointed stewards of the woodland.
Our water is all supplied by our fresh water well and rainfall harvesting. We use rainfall for vegetables, gardens and animals and the well water supplies all our domestic needs. There are dry composting toilets and solar heated showers and we provide excellent recycling and rubbish facilities so that we and our guests may do everything we can to reduce our environmental impacts." - Trip Adviser and Ecostayireland.com
